Covehithe beach- perfect for being alone with nature (19 miles from our holiday cottage)

After a 15 minute ramble on the hedge-lined footpaths we not expecting an instant reveal - Desolate, wild, remote, Bleak, untamed but my word it took my breath away- it was beautiful. I instantly thought of Alex Garland's The Beach “Tourists went on holidays while travellers did something else. They travelled....the lure of a perfect beach is that no one knows how to get there” It has to be one  of most secret secluded beaches in Suffolk. I can now see why it is listed in the Telegraphs 'Britain's 40 best beaches'.

A picturesque microadventure for your weekend away in Suffolk

According to our quick google before we set off- Cove Hithe has the highest rate of erosion in the UK. Its erodes by 3 to 4m a year according to an article in our local newspaper the EADT. The name comes form the De Cove family- landowners from the middle ages and Hithe meaning Quay (as in loading and unloading boats).

To to us it was the perfect morning- Countryside walks and a sandy beach on one of Suffolks unspoilt stretch of coastline. We had heard you do find wild seals on the beach but we didn't see any.  We did of course do our usual #2minutebeachclean and there is a varying amount of shingle to have a good beach combing session (I must write a blog post on this for you one day!) .

Its also worth a look closer at the enormous roofless church - it houses a tiny thatched church with in the main church ruins.
sandy beach local to our holiday cottages (covehithe)
Covehithe Beach is 19 miles away but we think our guests will fall in love with it too. It is the perfect beach to start our microadventure challenge.

The beach details for those coming to stay in our holiday cottages....

Beach: Covehithe, Suffolk
Distance from us: 19 miles (But worth it!)
Postcode: NR34 7JW
Type of beach: sand and shingle
Facilities: No facilities (pack up a lunchbox before you leave the farm)
Car parking: Limited car parking- Park alongside the road which is 60 m or so before the start of the footpath (which is just after a green triangle with a bench on it to your right).
Notes: To find the beach, take the footpath on the opposite side of the road well before the church. It has a big signboard  (see photo). Follow the path around the fields (pig and arable) and then through a hedge / tree lined further foot path.   With a good off road pushchair you can get down there with little ones. We have a mountain buggy urban which handles it fine.

About the authors

We wanted to create a holiday where guests could get away from city life , relax with family or friends surrounded by nature. Experience rural living  surrounded by our beautiful British landscape on a working farm in a cosy cottage for a long chilled out weekend,  just like the good old days.

We are Andrew and Laura, we are the third generation owners of Sweffling Hall Farm.  We left our jobs in 2007 and moved to Suffolk to get back to rural life and to make it our new family home. In 2009 we  converted the cart shed in to two self-catering holiday cottages to run alongside the working farm.
