this is how 2012 National Geographic Adventurer of the year nominee Alastair Humphreys explains 'microadventures' - a term he coined in 2010 after he was inspired to bring adventures from big and grand to something anyone could achieve within their busy lives . He started by walking a full lap of the M25 in 7 days!.

A weekend away in Suffolk is a great opportunity for you to have your own microadventures. A cosy cottage in the countryside with beautiful views, your great excuse for skipping the sleeping outside bit AND your perfect base camp. 

Our location lends itself well to a great all round holiday; countryside and coast for endless possibilities of a few days filled with your own microadventures. : 

We have 20 beaches on the Suffolk coast line.  We always end up going to the same ones over and over so for our February challenge we are going to visit all the beaches that are 20 miles away or less from our Holiday cottages (so that's 13).  Although we will not be sleeping over, we will take our provisions (packed lunches) and warm clothes for our winter micro expeditions (possibly some sloe gin too- it is actually snowing as i write this...).

About the authors

We wanted to create a holiday where guests could get away from city life and come to relax with family or friends surrounded by nature. Not just for rural living but to be surrounded by our beautiful British landscape on a working farm in a cosy cottage for a long chilled out weekend just like the good old days. 

We are Andrew and Laura. We are the third generation to own Sweffling Hall Farm.  We left our jobs in 2007 and moved to Suffolk to get back to rural life and to make it our new family home. By 2009 we had converted the cart shed in to two self-catering holiday cottages to run alongside the working farm.
